By category, durable; by name, churning: the large tech employers' Austin offices run substantial applied-AI teams, the startup layer refreshes continuously through the accelerator orbit, and enterprise adopters (retail, energy, health) staff internal AI groups. Different trade, honestly stated: fewer frontier-lab seats and a smaller senior-researcher pool, but strong applied-AI demand, materially lower burn, no state income tax, and a scene where access is a function of showing up rather than pedigree. People building products and careers do well here; people chasing frontier research mostly still fly west.
